The sub-inch Trimble AgGPS Autopilot automated guidance system allows growers to maximize productivity and efficiency through improved placement of crop inputs, extended working hours and reduced costs. Growers are able to focus their attention on the task they are performing rather than concentrate on steering. This improves the results of the operation and reduces driver fatigue.

The interface of the Ag Leader INSIGHT display to the Autopilot system will expand the already wide range of INSIGHT display capabilities. The INSIGHT allows growers to record all field activities in one display – from planting to harvest – and now with the introduction of automated guidance makes it the most versatile and value-driven display on the market.

"Our plan with the INSIGHT display is to move it from our Autopilot controlled planter tractor to our self-propelled sprayer to our Autopilot combine and drive the same rows down to the inch all year long," said Steve Cubbage from Cubbage Farms, who tested the system earlier this year. “The monitor completes the full Autopilot picture. There's nothing out there better or more complete. Plus the hidden bonus is the support you get from the company that practically invented precision farming.”

The INSIGHT display and interface for the AgGPS Autopilot is expected to be available from Ag Leader dealers in August of 2004. The AgGPS Autopilot system is available through Trimble dealers.

Ag Leader's INSIGHT Display

Engineered from the ground up to take advantage of emerging advances in precision farming, INSIGHT features a 10.4” color touch-screen display, allowing users to view on-the-go information in color as they move through the field.

The large color display allows users to view yield maps, variable rate application maps, as-planted hybrid/variety maps and other real time field maps at the same time they are performing field work. This allows growers to observe field conditions that cause yield differences.

The INSIGHT display has a rugged sealed enclosure to keep out the elements and has an internal memory for storage of color maps. Adjustable backlighting on the display makes it easy to view the monitor in bright sunlight or at night. Direct access keys provide one-touch access to Home, Setup, Summary/Report and Run screens. Great attention has been focused on ensuring data integrity in all operating conditions, because accurate and reliable data collection is the foundation of precision farming.

The Trimble AgGPS Autopilot System

Trimble's AgGPS Autopilot system easily integrates to the vehicle's steering system to automatically guide it in consistent rows, pass after pass. A lightbar or field computer inside the cab allows the operator to select field patterns and display operating parameters. The in-cab display is also used to guide the tractor on path at the beginning of a row. Once on a row, the driver engages the AgGPS Autopilot system with the touch of a button to perform and oversee field operations. The driver, with hands-free operation, can concentrate on the task at hand such as planting or material application, rather than driving and the task. Automated steering allows machines to operate more hours in a day with considerably less stress on the operator. This technology translates to increased productivity for the farmer through more efficient utilization of tractors and extended working hours.
